Garden Craft Room

Client Brief

Our clients in Crawley wanted a bespoke garden craft room that could be used year-round for arts and crafts. One is a potter and the other a woodworker, so the space needed to comfortably accommodate two people working at the same time, with enough room for machinery, tools and creative processes to run side by side.

Practical storage was also essential. The brief included space for timber offcuts, tools and completed projects, all integrated neatly into the overall garden craft room design.

The Solution: A Bespoke Garden Craft Room

We designed and built a fully insulated garden craft room, finished with a khaki brown exterior, chosen to blend naturally with the surrounding garden landscape. To ensure the space could be used without disturbing neighbours, we added enhanced soundproofing to both the walls and ceiling, ideal for housing woodworking machinery such as table saws.

A dedicated storage area was incorporated alongside the main room, providing easy access to materials and finished pieces without cluttering the workspace. Internally, the garden craft room was lined with timber boards, allowing workbenches, shelving and tool organisers to be fixed anywhere with ease. This flexible setup ensures the space can evolve as the clients’ creative needs change over time.

FAQs

Can a garden craft room be used all year round?

1

Yes. A properly built garden craft room is fully insulated and designed for year-round use. With high-performance wall, roof and floor insulation, the space stays comfortable in winter and cool in summer, making it suitable for pottery, woodworking and other creative hobbies throughout the year.

Is soundproofing possible in a garden craft room?

2

Absolutely. Garden craft rooms can be designed with enhanced soundproofing in both the walls and ceiling. This is particularly important for activities such as woodworking, where machinery can generate significant noise. Proper soundproofing helps reduce disruption to neighbours while allowing you to work freely.

Can a garden craft room include storage as well as workspace?

3

Yes. Storage can be built directly into the design, either as a separate room or as integrated storage zones within the main space. This allows materials, tools and finished projects to be kept organised without compromising the working area.

How do I get started with designing a garden craft room?

4

The best place to start is with a site visit and an initial discussion about how you plan to use the space. We’ll talk through your creative needs, storage requirements and layout options, ensuring your garden craft room is designed correctly from day one. This approach helps avoid planning issues and results in a space that genuinely works for you.
