Home Motorcycle Workshop
Client Brief
Our client had moved into their dream property in Tonbridge, Surrey. The house ticked all the boxes, location close to friends and family. The only problem was that there was no garage for their three motorcycles! Working on your motorbike at home shouldn’t mean freezing garages (or in this case, motorcycles in the living room), cramped spaces, or tools spread across the house. Our client needed a dedicated space to work on their motorcycle year-round in comfort.
The Solution: A Home Motorcycle Workshop
A bespoke motorcycle workshop gives you a dedicated, secure space to build, repair and store your bike, designed around how you actually use it. If you’re experiencing a lack of space to work on your passion or are worried about noise, smells and disruption caused to the rest of the house, then a bespoke garden room gives you the freedom you need to work whenever you like.

FAQs
Can I build a motorcycle workshop in my garden?
1
Yes, a motorcycle workshop can be built in your garden using a purpose-built, insulated garden building. Many homeowners choose this option when they don’t have a garage or need a dedicated space for tools, repairs and storage. Depending on size and placement, most garden workshops fall under permitted development, but it’s always worth checking local regulations.
Do I need planning permission for a garden motorcycle workshop?
2
In many cases, garden workshops fall under permitted development, meaning you won’t need planning permission. However, this depends on factors such as height, size, and location within your property. If you live in a conservation area or listed building, additional permissions may apply.
What features should a motorcycle workshop include?
3
A well-designed motorcycle workshop should include:
Wide access doors for easy bike movement
Durable, easy-clean flooring
Ventilation for fumes and airflow
Strong lighting for detailed work
Secure storage for tools and equipment
These features make the space safer, more practical, and more enjoyable to use.
Is a garden workshop better than a garage for motorbikes?
4
For many homeowners, yes. A garden workshop can be purpose-built for motorcycles, offering better layout, insulation, and usability than a standard garage. It also frees up space in your home while giving you a dedicated work area.
